Papertrey February Blog Hop Challenge

Hi there!  Today is blog hop day for Papertrey Ink.  If you'd like to see what everyone has created, you can check out the links on Nichole's blog.  This month's challenge was to create an interactive card.  This one took me all morning to create, but I think it was worth the effort!

Here's the front of the card:

As you can see, I alluded to the fun to come inside!  Here's another look with a peek at the inside.

Ok, now for the fun...open it up and this is what you see...

Fun right???  To make the pop up part of this card, I made slits in the white cardstock that allowed me to fold it forward...similar to PTI's new die that came out last month.  I wish you could see this card in motion, because the flowers move a little when you open it.  They are mounted on acetate strips of paper which are then mounted on the back of the pink birthday sign.  This allows them to move a little more freely.  Here's a closer look...

Thanks for stopping by!  I'd love to hear your comments!

PTI Make it Monday - Glittered Buttons

Hi friends!  How are you?  It's been a few days since I last posted...sorry about that.  We've just been plugging along around here.  Luckily the weather has been nice lately and the boys have gotten to get outside to play and burn off some of their pent up energy!  I have to tell you about Brady though...he's my middle kiddo.  Bray has had several milestones lately...he has learned to ride his two wheel bike, he has learned to read, and he just today lost his very first tooth!  He's so excited about the tooth fairy coming to visit HIM instead of his big brother!  He also said the funniest thing the other day.  My husband asked him what the Golden Rule was...his response..."Flush and wash!"  How funny is that kid???

Ok, on to some crafty stuff.  This week's Make it Monday challenge on Nichole Heady's blog is to glitter up some buttons and add them to your project.  I have to admit, when I started this card I really had no idea where it was going or where it would end up, but I'm pretty pleased with the final product.  I'm loving the happy colors...time for spring!

In her MIM video, Ashley Cannon Newell used some silvery Prisma glitter on her buttons (really pretty), but I decided to use some black Martha Stewart glitter I had on hand.  I thought the dark buttons made more of an impact on this card.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Stay tuned for my PTI blog hop post tomorrow!

Interactive Cards #5

Last one!!  This is interactive card #5.  Quite a while ago, I watched a tutorial on youtube explaining how to make a card like this one.  I even wrote down most of the directions.  However, I can't seem to find the original video I watched.  So....I found a similar one by splitcoaststampers.  You can find it here.

I'm pretty satisfied with how this one turned out...it was pretty early in the evening when I made this one.  My Brady-Joe is 6 and the kiddos in his class are all turning 6 this year, so I'm sure I'll need another 6 year old card sometime soon!

I like this card because like the first one, it stands up when you open it.  Yep...I like this one.

Thanks again for sticking with me through the past ten days of PTI's 5th Anniversary Festivities.  It's been really fun and I have really gotten some of my creative juices flowing!

INGREDIENTS:
Paper: PTI's Spring Rain, Blueberry Sky, Simply Chartruese, Lemon Tart, Dark Chocolate and Pure Poppy, and patterned paper from Lime Twist
Stamps: PTI's Happy Day, Background Basics: Chevron, and Half and Half
Ink: PTI's Snow White and Palette's Noir Black
Dies: PTI's Half and Half, Layers Mat Stack 3, By the Numbers, Seeing Stars and Sweet As Can Be

Interactive Cards #4

Here comes interactive card #4!  This one is a waterfall card for a boy.  I demonstrated the technique on how to construct a card like this on this post.  It is so fun to pull down the tab at the bottom and see the little squares flip by!

My only problem with making these waterfall cards is deciding what to put on the little squares.  If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

Thanks for visiting...again!

INGREDIENTS:
Paper: PTI's Spring Rain, Enchanted Evening, Pure Poppy, Lemon Tart, Simply Chartreuse, Hawiian Shores, and Orange Zest, and patterned paper from Lime Twist
Stamps: PTI's Half and Half, Tag-its #s 10 and 6, Birthdays By the Numbers, and Star Prints
Ink: PTI's Pure Poppy, Snow White, and Hawaiian Shores, and Palette Noir Black
Other: Rhinestone

Interactive Cards #3

Ok, here's interactive card #3.  The interactive part of this one is probably my favorite of the 5, but I'll get to that in a moment.  The front of the card is really simple, and to be honest...unfinished.  As I said in my last post, I was sort of rushing to get a lot of entries completed for the challenge on Nichole's blog, so I sacrificed some details.  I think I'll probably at least go back and add a ribbon to the tag.

Now for the inside.  I watched this great video on youtube that explained how to make these cute little balloons that waved in the middle of a card, and I thought, "Hmmmm, I think I'll do that with letters."  This is how it turned out!  Pretty cute huh?  Take a look at the video for all the details on how to construct the card.

Ink: PTI's Hawaiian Shores and Spring Moss
Dies: PTI's Seeing Stars, Tag Sale #5, and Block Alphabet Die Collection

Interactive Cards #2

Ok, so this is my second interactive card for the day.  This one features a technique I demonstrated in this post.

I decided to go with a boyish theme because I'm always needing boy cards with three little guys running around here.  I thought a pop-up birthday cake card would be fun.  I'm not completely satisfied with this one yet...I was really rushing to get a bunch of cards done for Nichole's challenge, and I sacrificed some details in the process.  I may go back and add some "frilly" stuff to jazz it up, but for now this is what it is.

Thanks for looking!

Interactive Cards #1

Hi everyone!  I'm so sorry friends, but I was WAY too tired to post the specifics about all 5 cards I put together last night!  So tonight, my goal is to update you on how I created each of these 5 little guys (this post and the next 4).  The reason for this creative explosion was yesterday's contest on Nichole Heady's blog.  We were challenged to come up with interactive cards for a chance to win some amazing prizes which included a $500 PTI gift card!  Wellllll....you know me and my PTI, I just HAD to participate and get in as many entries as possible!  I can now however, deliver the unforunate news that I was NOT the winner.  **sniff sniff**  I'm coping though!

So this first card was made using a technique I found on a great youtube video.  For all the mechanical instructions I highly suggest taking a peek at the footage.

I love how this card slides out and can actually stand on its own once it's finished.  Pretty clever!

Thanks so much for visiting...stay tuned for the next one!

Butterflies...but no leaves...

Hi 'yall.  Ok, so I kind of goofed on this one.  You may recall on my last post that the challenge on Nichole Heady's blog today is to incorporate both butterflies AND leaves into a card design.  Welllllll....I kinda forgot the leaves on this one.  This was actually the first card I made for this challenge and I just completely forgot about the leaves.  Oh well, hopefully it's cuteness will make up for it! ;)

Here it is:

Pretty cute, hunh?

Thanks for visiting again!

Heart Day!

Hi yall!  Today's challenge on Nichole Heady's blog is to post projects with hearts on them.  A few weekends ago I got to spend a whole afternoon/night at Archivers with my good friend Betsy, and I made a few V-day cards.  I haven't gotten a chance to post a couple of them yet, but you will see them today as they have hearts on them!

Here's the first:

This one features a new tool I purchased at Archivers called the Sew Ribbon tool.  It allows you to punch slits into your paper to feed ribbon through.  There are different tools with different patterns.  This one, scallop, makes the ribbon look like semi-circles going across the card.

Here's another look:

PTI Sketch #1

Hi again!  This just might have to be my last card of the night...it's after midnight and I'm fading fast!  I have to say though...I have had the MOST fun tonight!  I have thoroughly enjoyed creating off of the great sketches provided by the PTI team.  This card was inspired by this sketch:

Here's my take:

I love the colors on this one and I'm so glad that I got to use my newest impression plate!  I hadn't had an opportunity to use it before.  Love it!

PTI Sketch #5

Hi again!  So, I'm totally loving this whole sketch thing!  It really takes a lot of guesswork out of putting a card together, and it allows you to focus on other things like color and which stamps/die cuts to use instead of having to think about EVERYTHING all at one time!  So, here's the inspiration sketch I worked from this time:

And here's my take:

I was originally going to go with a yellow and grey color story, but it just didn't feel right once I got started with it, so I switched to blue and I really love it!  This may be one of my favorite cards yet!

Thanks for visiting again...I'm still going strong, so hopefully I'll get one or two more out tonight!

PTI Sketch #4

Hi friends!  TGIF!!  I'm so glad that tomorrow is Saturday and I get to sleep in!  Which will be a good thing because I plan to be up pretty late tonight participating in the challenge over on Nichole Heady's blog.  Day 6 of PTI's 5th Anniversary celebration presents us with a challenge to make a card based on one of five sketches.  I'm hoping to participate in all 5, but we'll see how far I get!

My first card is based on sketch #4:

Pinterest Inspiration #3

Hi again friends!  This is my last Pinterest inspiration project for today.  Here's the photo I started with:

Hello again friends!  Here's my second Pinterest inspiration card.  I started with this photo from Pinterest:

Pinterest Inspiration #1

Hi friends!  Today's challenge on Nichole Heady's blog is to find a picture on Pinterest and use that as inspiration for a new project.  I have completed several, but I'll be posting them individually.

For my first project, this was my inspiration photo:

love the fabric

I loved the colors of the fabric here.  They make me think of some wall paper that was in my grandmother's house.  Here's the card I made from this great photo:

This card was so fun to make!  I love stamping my own backgrounds and seeing them come to life right before me!

Before I leave you, I must ask for some prayers.  My husband has been looking for a new job for such a long time (he has never been unemployed, but the company he works for is awful to their employees).  Anyway, we think he has a pretty solid lead on a new one.  If you have any extra prayers left at the end of the day, I'd really appreciate it if you could send one up for us!

PTI Color Challenge

Hi friends!  Well....it was an exciting day over on Nichole Heady's blog today!  Lots of fun announcements about what's to come this year including new PTI gear and patterned papers!  Tons of fun!!

Today's challenge was a color challenge.  Each of the DT members gave an example of their fav color combo and we were challenge to create a card inspired by our favorite of the examples.  I chose Danielle Flanders.  Here's her fav color combo:

Danielle-colors

Here's what I came up with:

As has been my M.O. lately, I wanted to go clean and simple.  I used all four of Danielle's favorite colors and I love how they pop off of the card!

I hope I did justice to Danielle's inspiration!  Thanks Danielle!

And thank YOU for visiting!

PTI Make it Monday

Hi everyone!  It's late, so I'm going to make this short.  Today's project was made for PTI's Make it Monday which challenged us to use "Double Sided Stamped Die Cuts" on our projects.  I decided to use two cuts made with one of the Half & Half dies.  After stamping both sides of the cuts, I sort of "folded" them over to form a butterfly shape.  I hope this qualifies for the challenge!

Thanks for visiting!
